NA session convened for Saturday


ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Friday summoned the National Assembly session to meet on Saturday to discuss prevailing situation, arose after the apex court verdict, disqualifying PML-N leaders Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shehbaz Sharif.

According to a notification, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President has been pleased to summon the National Assembly to meet in the Parliament Building Islamabad on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1600 hours.”

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Zaheeruddin Babar Awan said that the session has been summoned in wake of the situation after the disqualification of Sharif brothers, adding that the political parties should raise every issue in Parliament, not in street.

“Peaceful dialogue can even bring wars to an end, so it is necessary that dialogue process is not suspended in democracy for better national interest of the country,” said the minister and added that the political forces would be welcomed if they raise their issue before the House.
