N-League members booted out horse-trading efforts: Shahbaz


LAHORE: Muslim League-N president Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that Nawaz Sharif leadership on March 15 translated into reality the dream of making Pakistan into Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan, while the black coats had launched a movement since the last two years by closing down their business.

Addressing ML-N General Council meeting, he congratulated Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Imran Khan and other political parties for playing their effective roles in judges’ restoration movement. He said media role in the movement could not be forgotten.

He said that when the people saw that Nawaz Sharif had himself come out for long march, then they left their daily cores and rushed for joining the march spontaneously. He said that ML-N remained steadfast on principles that was the reason people from Karachi to Khayber supported Nawaz Sharif and long march had not even crossed Ravi that Islamabad people felt the knee-jerks and when the people come out in the name God such results were bound to come.

Paying tributes to their assembly members who had scornfully spurned away the horse-trading offers. He pledged to the nation for eradicating poverty, hunger, unemployment and lawlessness from the country.

CJ not to attend Pakistan Day ceremony in Awan-e-Sadar


ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has expressed his inability to attend the award-distribution ceremony, which will be held in Aiwan-e-Sadar on the eve of the Pakistan Day.

According to Registrar Supreme Court Dr Faqeer Hussain, the chief justice will not be able to attend the ceremony due to preparation of cases at home before resuming his office tomorrow.

Loadshedding in various cities despite public holiday


KARACHI: Loadshedding of electricity continues in various big and small cities of the country despite public holiday on Monday.

People are facing difficulties due to one-hour loadshedding after every two hours in interior Sindh.

Loadshedding continues in various areas of Hyderabad despite public holiday whereas electricity remains suspended since 6-00 o’clock in the morning in some nearby areas including Mirpur Khas, Sanghar and Umarkot and in many areas, one-hour loadshedding is being observed after every two years.

One-hour loadshedding is being observed with short breaks in Sukkur, Rohri, Pannu Aqil and Salehpat while hide and seek of electricity also continues in Jacobabad, Larkana, Khairpur, Nawabshah, badin and Ghotki.

Besides, loadshedding for 4-6 hours in urban areas and 6-8 hours loadshedding continues in rural areas of Jhang.

Laodshedding with short breaks also continues in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Gujranwala and Dera Ghazi Khan while loadshedding with braks also continues in many areas of NWFP including Abbotabad, Mansehra, Nowshera and Charsadda.

Meanwhile, loadshedding is being observed in Chaman, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Kan Mehtarzai, Naseerabad, Jaffarbad and industrial city of Hab despite public holiday.

Next target restoration of parliament’s autonomy: Ahsan


LAHORE: Secretary information Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Ahsan Iqbal vowed on Sunday that the next mission of their party was to restore the autonomy of the parliament, which demands repeal of 17th amendment at all costs.

In his statement Ahsan said PML-N has introduced new way of democracy in guise of Charter of Democracy (CoD) so that Pakistan’s respect could be uplifted in the eyes of foreign nations.

“PML-N has achieved its goal by getting the deposed judiciary restored and we have proved to our nation that keeping one’s words in opposition is possible if your intentions are purified”, he pointed out and remarked, “Our efforts have foiled horse trading attempts in Punjab assembly”.

President prays for long life of Nusrat Bhutto


ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has preyed for the long life of the former first lady of Pakistan Begum Nusrat Bhutto on the eve of her eightieth birthday celebration.

President, on the occasion, also lauded her services rendered for the country and nation.

“She stood like a concrete wall against her opponents to seek the stability of democracy and for provision of human rights to common people of Pakistan”, Zardari underlined and added, “She led people’s movement against a dictator as a leader of MRD.”

She enjoys the honour of becoming the mother of two times Prime Minister of Pakistan Ms. Benazir Bhutto, he added.

Freedom of media, democracy necessary for stability: Sherry


KARACHI: Former Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has said on Sunday that the center government has been facing multi-faced challenges since 1971 while serous threats are hovering over country.

“Instead of destabilizing one another we must work for the stability of our country”, warned Sherry insisting that neither will she quit Pakistan Peoples Party nor will she halt supporting her party.

On the occasion of inaugural ceremony of the office of Association of Television Journalists (ATV) here she said, “This is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that country is undergoing immense crisis after 1971.”

“Pakistan also has been hit bitterly by global economic meltdown like other countries of the world”, she remarked adding, “Poverty, terrorism and unemployment have added fule to the fire”.

She said that she had stepped down as the Minister but was still a PPP’s member and she would continue to extend her support to government and her party.

She was in favour of sticking to law, rules and regulations instead of ministries or power.

“Freedom of media and democracy utterly essential for the stability of country”, remarked she.

Zardari-Nawaz conflict harmful for democracy: Sheikh Rashid


KARACHI: Awami Muslim League Chief, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that President Zardari and Nawaz Sharif clash was harmful for democracy.

Talking to newsmen at the airport on his arrival here, Sheikh Rashid said that Zardari-Nawaz fight was of no use albeit it would be a loss to democracy. He said that by reinstating the deposed chief justice, the nation should be relieved of this issue.

Sheikh Rashid said that he would not participate in the lawyers’ sit-in and added the sit-in could also lead to a debacle”.
