Indianapolis Tennis: Aisam-Querrey beaten in doubles semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS: The pair of Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq and America’s Sam Querrey after a sensational contest lost the men’s doubles semifinals in the Indianapolis Tennis Championship being held here in the United States.

They were defeated by the pair of Litovia’s Gulbis and Russia’s Tursunov.

Aisam and Querrey displaying brilliant game in the first set succeeded by 6-1 but they lost the second set by 2-6.

However, both teams performed well in the third and decisive set but the Pak-US pair lost the match after being defeated by 8-10 in the final set.

Provincial minister booked on charges of violence

LAHORE: Punjab Revenue Minister Haji Muhammad Ishaque has been booked on charges of patronizing an attack on police.

The FIR lodged against the minister states that an attack on police was carried out on his will.

He is also accused of snatching government weapons and taking along with him an accused who was in police custody.

The case was registered against Haji Muhammad Ishaque on the plea of an SHO.

It may be mentioned here that a clash occurred between the supporters of Haji Muhammad Ishaque and police last night in Gojra.

Consequently, a case was registered against 8 people but not against the Provincial Minister for Revenue.

Maulana Sufi Muhammad, sons, apprehended in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Amir banned Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi Maulana Sufi Muhammad along with his two sons has been taken into custody from an area of Peshawar.

According to sources, heavy police contingent carried out a raid in City Town area located next to G.T. Road in Peshawar and took into custody Maulana Sufi Muhammad along with his two sons, Ziaullah and Rizwanullah. An accomplice identified as Tahir has also been apprehended.

They have been shifted to an unknown location.

However, CCPO Peshawar Safwat Ghayoor said he had no knowledge about the above development.

It may be mentioned here that it was disclosed a day earlier that Maulana Sufi Muhammad has a residence in Peshawar.

Sources say he has been living in the Peshawar residence for the last one and a half month.
